We are hoping to be open on Monday 5th March at the normal time.

Week beginning 26-2-18

Year 3

Next week, we will continue to focus on fractions in our maths lessons.

We are going to be learning how to find fractions of amounts, compare some simple equivalent fractions and solve basic word problems.

Our topic work will be shared between writing stories about an escape from Pompeii and creating our own volcanoes. The children have read the story, watched the videos and are now ready to begin writing their own versions using lots of detailed descriptions.

Year 4

In the second week of the term Year 4 will be focusing on decimals and dividing by 10 and a 100. It is Book Week so we will be reading and talking about our favourite stories and writing an amazon recommendation of a book we like. Our theme moves on to the Viking period, where they came from and why they came.
In science we continue with States of Matter with a focus on the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Swimming is on Monday afternoon for 4J and PE is on Wednesday afternoon.

Year 5

Next week Y5 have a crammed week of exciting learning activities.

We will be celebrating Book Week with themed work and the final obligatory day of Fancy Dress!  Let us all make the effort to read a book during the week.

In mathematics, we will be continuing our quest relating to fractions.  All classes will be learning to calculate fractions of a quantity.

As part of the topic theme relating to Space we will be designing, making and testing our very own rocket cars.  This is a fabulous learning activity.  We will also be tackling the tricky concept of understanding the rotation of the earth – day, night and moon phases.

There will also be the usual arithmetic assessment to gauge the mathematical understanding.

In SPAG, we will be revisiting prefix and suffixes.

Year 6

Next week, we will be moving on to geometry in maths- including: properties of shapes and angles.

During SFA we will be finishing our short stories and moving on to reading – answering questions linked to the text: Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars.

Throughout topic work, we will be completing our ongoing D&T project.

Don’t forget:

– Practise your spellings and times tables in preparation for our weekly tests

– Recall all FDP facts

– PE kit should be in school on a Monday ready for our PE lesson on Thursday

– Remember to read often and complete your reading records

Things we are looking forward to:

– Book week

– Dressing up as our favourite book characters on Friday

– Working on our ‘Mission Impossibles’ in maths

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year – The Year of the dog

All children across school this week have spent time learning more about the Chinese culture and the celebrations associated with Chinese New Year.

The children looked at which animal year they were – some were born in the year of the pig, the tiger and some the year of the dog.

Our celebration assembly this afternoon brought everyone together to share their learning.

Look out for our incredible display going up in school next week.
