Student Council
Why do we have a Student Council?

Children like to have their say about issues that are important to them. Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives. The Student Council provides pupils with a meaningful way they can express and discuss their opinions. It allows all students to have a voice that is proactive in promoting positive change on decisions which impact them in school. This then promotes the positive well-being and self-worth of all children within school.

At Bramley Sunnyside Junior School, we want all of our students to be active and learn about democracy. It is also an important and useful way for children to develop leadership skills.

What does our Student Council do?

Our Student Council representatives take the views of their class members to the meetings to discuss. These view and ideas are then deliberated with all representatives and our Headteacher. It is the job of each representative to feed back to their class.
We help organise school projects to improve school life - to do this we often need to fundraise. Our fundraising ranges from sponsored events to raising money through donations via online shopping (The Giving Machine). Follow us on Twitter to keep up-to-date with all we are doing @BsjsCouncil.
