Week beginning 11-9-17

Year 3

In Y3 next week we will be continuing to learn about place value in maths. In particular, we will focus on being able to read and write numbers in both words and figures. We will also learn how to use our place value knowledge to add 1, 10 and 100 more to a range of 3 digit numbers. 

Our topic for this term is Predator and next we will be learning about a wide range of animals and how they can be grouped along with some of the more difficult scientific vocabulary such as predator, prey, producer, consumer, carnivore etc.

PE will normally take place on Tuesday afternoons but please bring your PE kits in on Monday and take them home on Friday each week just in case.

Don’t forget to practice your spellings that will be given out on Monday. There will be a quick test on Friday.

Year 4

In the second week of this term Year 4 will be continuing with place value in mathematics and assessing themselves in arithmetic.

In science they will be looking at using keys to ask questions and identify different living creatures.

In English we will be developing our writing through the theme of ‘The Blue Abyss’ with all its mysteries of the deep! Using our art skills we will be creating super images to add to our immersive environments.

PE is on Wednesday afternoon and 4AW will be swimming on Thursday afternoon.

Year 5

After a fabulous first week back, we are looking forward to continuing our journey to ancient Egypt next week and learning about the Egyptologist  Howard Carter and his amazing discoveries.  

In maths, we will be demonstrating our arithmetic skills in our first Year 5 test this week as well as deepening our understanding of place value in numbers up to 1,000,000.  

We will be beginning science, with Electricity being our first focus.  

PE will be on Monday afternoon  and it is very important that everyone has the correct kit.

Please note the following information – 

Maths homework will be sent out on a Monday and must be returned on Thursday.

English homework will be sent out on a Thursday and must be returned on Tuesday.

Spellings and multiplication tables will be tested on Fridays.

Year 6

We welcome you all back from the Summer holiday and we hope you have all had a relaxing break – ready to take on the new school year!
Next week we will be carrying out maths, SPaG and reading assessments in preparation for future learning.
In topic, we will be continuing our learning about Rainforests – developing our art skills by creating rainforest inspired imaginary using a range of mixed medium.
Don’t forget:
– Practise your spellings and times tables in preparation for our weekly tests
– PE kit should be in school on a Monday ready for our PE lesson on Thursday
– Remember to read often and complete your reading records
Things we are looking forward to:
– Our visit to Crucial Crew on Wednesday
