Week beginning 13-11-17

Year 3

Our new homework policy has started already so please have a look at the times tables and spellings for each week. These are always available online and are displayed in the classrooms. Next week our times table focus will be the 4’s.

In class, we will be focusing on refining our ability to use written methods for addition and subtraction as well as solving word problems.

We will also be learning about bones! In particular, why we need skeletons, the names of bones and how they are joined together.

Year 4

This week Year 4 will be continuing with their mathematical explorations around multiplication and division with a focus on problem solving. It is our final week of SFA until January and children will be showing off their writing projects related to their book study.
It is anti-bullying week and the children will be taking the theme ‘All different, all equal’ to produce a variety of writing, drama and art.
PE is on Wednesday and 4AW will be swimming on Thursday.

Year 5

Next week in Year 5 maths lessons our focus will turn to multiplication and division.  We will be consolidating formal written methods from Year 4 and extending our understanding to help us calculate with larger numbers.  We will be reflecting on our learning in SfA as we complete the final week in the cycle and look forward to applying co-operative learning skills in class based English learning.

The whole school theme will be Anti-Bullying  – ”All different, all equal’ next week and we look forward to celebrating our differences.  We will also be learning more about the British Value – The Rule of Law, beginning by a visit from the SYP.

Year 6

On a return, in maths we will be recapping the 4 operations and moving on to applying these skills to fractions; including:adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
In SFA we will writing a non-chronological report based on an animal from the rainforest. We will be using our research/notes to develop these into paragraphs.
As geographers, we will be continuing our learning about rainforests. Including creating sock monkeys, classifying animals and learning all about Charles Darwin’s discoveries.
Don’t forget:
– Practise your spellings  in preparation for our weekly tests
– PE kit should be in school on a Monday ready for our PE lesson on Thursday
– Remember to read often and complete your reading records
– Use Times Table Rockstars to practise your multiplication/division facts
Things we are looking forward to:
