Week beginning 14-5-18

Year 3

Next week we are continuing to create our Stone Age tools. So far we have made the structure and begun to wrap in paper mache. We are looking forward to painting the tools to make them look as realistic as possible.  Our maths and English work will continue.  We will be exploring Fair Trade – looking at what this means, locally, nationally and globally.

We will also be starting a new science topic on light. The children will begin by investigating light sources and how we see.

Year 4

This week year 4 will continue to explore co-ordinates in 4 quadrants through computing and maths lessons. They will be exploring how to draw 2D shapes by knowing missing co-ordinates. As it is Fair Trade Week they will be studying the concept of fair trade round the world and supporting their geography. In science Year 4 will be continuing their work on healthy bodies and the functions of the major organs.

4S will be swimming on Monday afternoon and PE is not at a fixed time so best bring kits on Monday morning to be sure.

Year 5

Year 5 children are excited to begin our ‘Mindfulness’ work on Monday; this whole class work will continue for 8 weeks and we are looking forward to seeing some positive benefits over the next few weeks!  In our maths lessons, we will be focussing on time: looking at reading and telling the time; reading and using timetables and solving word problems involving converting units of time.  Being able to tell the time is an important life skill, which can easily be reinforced and practised at home.  Please encourage your child to practice as often as possible.  As part of our geography based topic, children are developing their understanding of rivers.  In music sessions, children are continuing to work on their recorder and samba band skills.  We shall also be continuing to work on our ‘Tinga Tinga’ artwork for the Picture This! exhibition.

As always, please ensure P.E. kits are in school on Monday, reading diaries are in on a Wednesday and spellings and times tables are practised, ready for our tests on Friday.

Year 6

Year 6 children will be taking their SATs this week – they have worked very hard in the run up to this week and we have every confidence that they will do their very best.  We are proud of every child, all of whom have shown determination and resilience.

Throughout the week we will be applying all our skills and talents we have developed this year; answering a range of questions across Maths, SPaG and Reading.
After all of our hard work, we will be enjoying some well-deserved downtime; where we will be showcasing our skills in other areas of the curriculum, including: art, sport and computing.
Don’t forget:
– Have a lovely weekend, rest and come back Monday feeling prepared.
The test structure for the week is as follows:

Monday – Spelling, punctuation and grammar – 2 papers.

Tuesday – Reading – 1 paper

Wednesday – Maths – 2 papers

Thursday – Maths – 1 paper

Friday – NO ASSESSMENTS – Test week is over!!!

Things we are looking forward to:
– Completing our SATS and enjoying some well deserved rest
