Week beginning 16-4-18

Year 3

We’ve enjoyed our first week back of the summer term and especially Science Week. We are looking forward to learning more about fractions in maths including finding equivalent fractions using diagrams.

Our new topic is the Stone Age and we will be developing our understanding of British history by creating a timeline dating back to the early Stone Age.

Please remember our PE day is on Tuesday. We have had a number of children forgetting kits. Your child will need a change of footwear along with suitable clothing for the weather.

Year 4

In the second week of this term Y4 will be continuing with converting measures and investigating perimeters, especially more complicated rectilinear shapes. It would really help if children were encouraged at home to look at packaging and recipes for examples of different weights and volumes. In science we move down the throat from the study of teeth into the structure of the digestive system!

Swimming on Monday afternoon for 4S and PE for all  Y4  is on Wednesday afternoon.

Year 5

After an exciting Science week, Year 5 are now looking forward to starting our new topic – Around the world in 80 Days.

We will be beginning our exploration of the continents, with a particular focus on important rivers and mountainous regions.

In maths, children will continue to develop their understanding of measures, applying their knowledge of conversions practically.  SFA lessons will continue to develop children’s reading and inference skills.  Please remember it is important to read at home every day and record this in your reading diary.  In music lessons, 5M are learning to play the recorder and 5D and 5PM will be learning how to play an instrument as part of a Samba band.

PE kits (indoor and outdoor) must be in school on a Monday, including suitable footwear.

Spellings and times table facts will be tested on Friday, so please remember to practise.

Times Table Rock Stars and PurpleMash are excellent ways to complete home learning.

Year 6

Next week we will be continuing our learning of ratio and moving on to learning all bout statistics; including learning how to construct pie charts.

During SFA lessons we will be applying our reading skills to answer comprehension questions.

In SPaG lessons, we will be consolidating our understanding of SPaG terminology and we will be using SPaG.com to apply our understanding to test style questions.

After all of our hard revision, we will be enjoying some well-deserved downtime; where we will be showcasing our skills in other areas of the curriculum, including: art, sport and computing.

Don’t forget:

– Practise your spellings in preparation for our weekly tests

– Use TTRockstars to practise timestables

– Recall all FDP facts

– PE kit should be in school on a Monday ready for our PE lesson on Thursday

– Remember to read often and complete your reading records

Things we are looking forward to:

– Spending time with our families this Easter
– Launching our new topic: Chocolate world
