Mental Health and Well-being

As we strive to provide our children with the opportunities and the knowledge to be successful individuals in the world, our aim is to link our current learning with new approaches to mental health and well-being. With this in mind, we would like to introduce our ‘BSJS Happy Brain’ approach to ensure our children have the skills and knowledge about their brains as well as being able to apply strategies to support their emotions. We will be continuing to implement our work with ‘The Kindness Coach’ building on our Happy Tank exercises. Children will be practising these weekly in our ‘BSJS Happy Brain’ sessions.

Our weekly mindfulness sessions will be taught to the children as follows:

As part of this, we will be teaching weekly lessons from the ‘My Happy Mind’ scheme. This is a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, which teaches children preventative strategies that support the building and sustaining of a positive mental health. Based on positive psychology research, the programme teaches children to understand their mind and the science behind our brains, using technical vocabulary to explain why we sometimes feel and react in certain ways. The NHS backed programme consists of 5 modules which are taught in weekly 20-minute whole-class interventions.
